NEW UPDATE TO DONOR SCREENING GEO GUIDE

May 19, 2023

The CDC published the 2024 edition of the Yellow Book online, with notable differences in the malaria information for Guatemala and Vietnam from the printed 2024 Yellow Book. An inquiry was submitted to the CDC Malaria Hotline to ask which information was correct. The CDC’s response was to “… use the online recommendations as the most up to date.” Accordingly, an update to the Donor Screening GEO Guide has been issued based on the revised malaria information for Guatemala and Vietnam in the online version of the 2024 Yellow Book, located on the CDC’s website.

UPDATE TO DONOR SCREENING GEO GUIDE: COSTA RICA

April 26, 2023

An update to the Donor Screening GEO Guide has been issued in response to the revised malaria information published in the online edition of the 2020 Yellow Book on the CDC's website for Costa Rica.

Although the 2024 Yellow Book was published on April 4, 2023, as of April 23, 2023 the Yellow Book edition on the CDC’s website is still the 2020 Yellow Book. This has created a situation where the CDC’s most current malaria information is located in different editions of the Yellow Book. For all countries except Costa Rica, the CDC’s most current malaria information is in the print version of the 2024 Yellow Book. For Costa Rica, the CDC’s most current malaria information is in the online version of the 2020 Yellow Book, located on the CDC’s website.

This update includes:

  • Revision of the list of Malaria-Endemic Tourist Ports of Call Worldwide for ports in Costa Rica.

  • Revision of the malaria map of Costa Rica.

  • Revision of Malaria Technical Notes and malaria map overlay for Costa Rica (Reference Editions only).

This has created a situation where the CDC’s most current malaria information is located in different editions of the Yellow Book. For all countries except Costa Rica, the CDC’s most current malaria information is in the print version of the 2024 Yellow Book.
